You can make a wax hand, get an airbrush tattoo, gulp some “pucker powder,” spin a prize wheel, listen to music, enjoy a soft drink, and much more at WCC’s Winter Welcome Day on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and second floors of the Student Center building.

While Welcome Day can feel like a carnival, it also provides a chance for students to learn about all of the resources that WCC offers. You can learn about scholarships, tutoring, the library, eating options on campus, the Student Resource & Women’s Center, Career Services, the Health and Fitness Center, the Copy Center, and the WCC Bookstore.

“Students should come because there are services they need that they don’t even know we offer,” said Rachel Barsch, who is organizing the event for Student Activities. “It’s a fun, festive atmosphere, and maybe students can make some connections.”

Representatives of student clubs, the WCC Sports office, The Washtenaw Voice, and Orchard Radio also will be on hand to talk about opportunities they provide.

A new feature for Welcome Day this year is the Community Resource Showcase, which will be on the second floor of the Student Center building. It will feature local nonprofit agencies that provide services to students. The HIV/AIDS Resource Center, the Washtenaw Association for Community Advocacy, Washtenaw County Michigan Works, the Public Benefits Advocacy Project, and Dress for Success Michigan are just some of the nonprofits that will attend.

“I love Welcome Day because there’s something about seeing administrators, students, faculty, and community all in one place,” Barsch said. “We want everybody to stop by.”
